Origins of The Chris Banks Trio
an Introduction to The Chris Banks Trio
I first met pianist Tania Gill over 20 years ago when I was just 15 years old. Tania lived in Victoria B.C. at the time and I would regularly make the trip to up-island from Nanaimo to visit my musician grandmother Lorna Woods and to get the "big city" experience. It was in Victoria that I was able to meet many dedicated musicians and visit Hermann's Jazz Club. Tania and I immediately became friends and regular session mates and she introduced me to many musicians.

Chris
and I started playing together in 1995 - a couple years after I had
made the big move to Toronto where we would play together at coffee shop
gigs and as well doing sessions and in the summer of 2000 both attended
the Banff Centre Jazz Program.
Over
the past 20 years, while the three of us often have moved musically in a
variety of directions, we would rarely let a year go by without finding
an opportunity to play together.
So
here we are after, all this time, and we decided to make a recording to
document what we've been doing together all these years. There was no
big plan about how to approach this music other than "let's play the
songs that have brought us together, let's just keep doing what we've
been doing all along"
